A native of Elba, Alabama CSM Thigpen enlisted into the Army in May of 1997 as a 14R (Bradley Linebacker Crewmember). He attended basic training at Fort Sill, OK and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, TX.

CSM Thigpen served in every leadership position from team leader to first sergeant. His stateside assignments include Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, Fort Campbell, KY, Fayetteville, AR, Fort Bliss, TX, and Fort Sill, OK. His overseas assignments include McCully Barracks, Germany, with two deployments each to Iraq and Afghanistan for combat and peacekeeping operations.

CSM Thigpen’s military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Basic Non-commissioned Officer course (BNCOC), Drill Sergeant School, Senior Leaders Course (SLC), Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, School of Cadet Command Instructor Training Course, Senior ROTC Pre-Command Course, and the Master Resilience Trainer (MRT) Course. He is also a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA), Class 67. He is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Excelsior College.

CSM Thigpen’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4th award), the Army Achievement Medal (7th award), the Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Drill Sergeant Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge and the Military Driver and Mechanic badge (Wheeled).

CSM Thigpen resides in Lawton, OK with his wife Melissa who serves as a pre-k teacher at the Child Development Center on Fort Sill. He has a daughter who currently serves in the military as 25U stationed on Fort Sill and a son who resides in Centennial Colorado.
