Colonel Ryan McCormack born on Long Island, New York and received a commission in the United States Army as a Field Artillery officer after graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1997.

After completing the Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 320th FA (Balls of the Eagle) where he served in several developmental leader positions. Following his attendance at the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course in 2001, COL McCormack was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Hood, Texas. He initially served as the Fire Support Officer for 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry (Talons) and deployed with the Talons in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2003. While deployed to OIF, Ryan assumed command of C Battery, 3rd Battalion 16th Field Artillery (Rolling Thunder). Upon redeployment, he assumed command of HHB, 4ID DIVARTY and led its transition to a Fires Brigade. In 2005, the McCormack family moved to West Point, NY where COL McCormack was a student in the Eisenhower Leader Development Program and subsequently served as a Company Tactical Officer in the United States Corps of Cadets. He later served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Superintendent, United States Military Academy. In 2010, COL McCormack was assigned to the 17th Fires Brigade (Thunderbolt) at Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA where he served as the Operations and Executive Officer for the 1st Battalion, 94th Field Artillery Regiment (Deep Steel). He later served as the 17th FA Brigade S3. In 2013, COL McCormack was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas where after an initial assignment as Division Chief of Operations, he assumed command of 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment (Steel Dragons) in the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Greywolf). Upon graduation from the U.S. Army War College in 2017, COL McCormack was assigned to the Joint Staff in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. where he served in the J3 Directorate as a Deputy Division Chief in the Regional Operations Directorate.

COL McCormack participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During his service, COL McCormack earned the following awards and decorations: Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Staff Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Joint Staff Identification Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

COL McCormack holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy. He received a Masters of Arts in Organizational Psychology and Leadership from Columbia University in 2006. He received a Masters of Arts in Defense Strategic Studies from King’s College London in 2010. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Career Courses at Fort Sill, the Combined Arms Service and Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, the Joint Services Command and Staff College at Shrivenham, England, United Kingdom, and the U.S. Army War College.

Ryan is married to the former Erin Murphy from Long Island, NY, and they have two children.
