Sergeant Major Jerry Eric Lopez

Jerry Eric Lopez was born in San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in January 1996 from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School. Attending Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class (PFC) and graduated from 3rd Battalion, Mike Company, Platoon 3082. Following graduation from Basic Training, PFC Lopez reported to Redstone Arsenal, Alabama for Ammunition Technician’s School.

In August 1996 PFC Lopez was promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl) and reported to First Fleet Service Support Group, 1st Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Ammunition Technician for Ammunition Company in 43 area Las Pulgas. He also participated in numerous training exercises and mountain Warfare Training (Cold Weather Package). During this tour with Ammo Company; LCpl Lopez was meritorious promoted to Corporal (Cpl) in 1997 and attend Corporals Course at Camp Del Mar, Camp Pendleton. In 1999 Cpl Lopez was promoted to Sergeant (Sgt).

After his tour in Camp Pendleton; Sgt Lopez received orders to Recruiter School in MCRD, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruiter school, Sgt Lopez was assigned to Recruiting Station (RS) Dallas, Texas from 2001 to 2004, serving as a canvassing recruiter at Recruiting Sub-Station North Dallas. During his tenure, Sgt Lopez served as canvassing recruiter and the Assistant Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (ANCOIC) of Recruiting Substation (RSS) North Dallas, TX. During his tour Sgt Lopez distinguished himself by winning Rookie Recruiter of the Year 2001 then promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt).

After successfully completing recruiting duty SSgt Lopez was assigned to Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe, Hawaii where he served as the Ammunition Chief, Supply Chief, Platoon Sergeant and Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructor for Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion 12th Marines. While at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe he participated in various deployments to include a Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan from July 2005 to January 2006. SSgt Lopez attended the Career Course in while on UDP in Okinawa, Japan. While assigned to Bravo Battery, SSgt Lopez was selected to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom mission in Afghanistan where he was Embedded Training Team (ETT) as a senior enlisted mentor/adviser from November 2006 to August 2007 with an Afghan Infantry Company conducting counter insurgency and combat operations and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant while deployed in Afghanistan.

In September 2007, GySgt Lopez was reassigned to Inspector Instructor duty in Rome, Georgia. GySgt Lopez was assigned as the Operations and Training Chief for Detachment 1 Ammunition Company. There he was responsible for mentoring of the reserve Operations and Training Chief, the Toys for Tots program in the local area, all Color Guard ceremonies and funerals that took place in the surrounding areas. He also participated in numerous training events, community events, and the BRAC closure of the Home Training Center in Rome, Georgia where the unit was relocated to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia. GySgt Lopez attended the Advance Career Course, Quantico, Virginia. In April 2010 GySgt Lopez was frocked to First Sergeant and attended the First Sergeant’s Course in Quantico, Virginia and the E8 Seminar in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In April of 2010, First Sergeant Lopez was assigned to 2D Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment 27. First Sergeant Lopez was assigned to Communications Company for five months before he was moved to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company, 2D Marine Logistics Group (Forward) on Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. After his brief tour of 12 months in Afghanistan; First Sergeant filled the billet as the Company First Sergeant for Food Service Company and the Regimental Sergeant Major billet for Combat Logistics Regiment 27. In December 2012, he received orders to 3d Intelligence Battalion, III MEF Headquarters Group Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan.

In February 2013, First Sergeant Lopez was re-assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, III MEF Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Courtney as the Company First Sergeant from February 2013 to February 2016. First Sergeant Lopez was promoted to Sergeant Major in 2016 and attended the Commanders Course in Quantico, Virginia.

In February 2016, First Sergeant Lopez was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and reported for duty as the 3d Supply Battalion, Sergeant Major. During this tenure with 3d Supply Battalion; Sergeant Major Lopez deployed to Korea in support of Combined/Joint Logistics Over-the Shore (CJLOTS) in Chinhae, Korea and the unit was awarded the DOD Supply Excellence award.

In June of 2017 to present, Sergeant Major Lopez was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion.

PERSONAL DECORATIONS: Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of Second Award), Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (7th award), Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.

Sergeant Major Lopez is married to Mrs. Maria E. Lopez and has three daughters.
