Lieutenant Colonel Waco Lane

Following his graduation from Southeast Missouri State University in 1998 Lieutenant Colonel Lane was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and reported to The Basic School at Quantico, Virginia and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Second Lieutenant Lane was subsequently assigned to Battery K, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment at Twentynine Palms, California where he served as the Liaison Officer to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in May 2000. In 2001 he was reassigned to Headquarters Battery where he served as the Battalion Fire Direction Officer and Assistant Operations Officer for one year. In May, 2002 he was reassigned to Battery L and served as Battery Executive Officer where he completed the Operational Test and Evaluation of the M777 Lightweight Howitzer and numerous other field exercises.

In October 2002 he was promoted to Captain and assigned to the Marine Artillery Detachment, Fort Sill, OK. He began his tour at Ft Sill as a Gunnery Instructor for the Officer Basic Course. In 2003 he was chosen to serve as the Test Director for the M777 Lightweight Howitzer. Upon completion of all testing Captain Lane was subsequently assigned as the Officer in Charge of the M777 New Equipment Training Team, where he oversaw the fielding of the new howitzer. In August 2005 Captain Lane reported to Training and Education Command, Quantico, Virginia for Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS). In June 2006, Captain Lane was again assigned to 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Twentynine Palms, California. During his second tour with 3rd Battalion Captain Lane initially served as the Operations Officer until he joined the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines Military Transition Team in September 2006. Upon his return in August 2007 Captain Lane took command of Battery L, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines where he deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Lane was promoted to the rank of Major on 1 November, 2008 and again assumed the duties of the Battalion Operations Officer. In April 2009, Major Lane deployed with 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines to Afghanistan and provided offensive fire support to the entire 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade Area of Operations. He departed Afghanistan in September 2009 and reported to Marine Special Operations Support Group, Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command in October 2009. At Marine Special Operations Support Group Major Lane was assigned as the Fires Platoon Commander, Company Operations Officer, and Executive Officer of Support Company. In April 2010 he took command of Support Company until he was appointed as the Operations Officer for Marine Special Operations Support Group in January 2011.

In August 2012, Major Lane again reported to the Marine Detachment, Fort Sill, Oklahoma and assumed duties as a Small Group Leader for the US Army Field Artillery Captains Career Course. In August 2014, Major Lane was assigned as the Officer in Charge of Marine Enlisted Schools until his deployment to Combined Joint Force Land Component Command – Iraq in February 2015. While deployed he served as the Deputy CJ-7, in charge of the training and equipping of the Iraqi Security Forces. Major Lane returned from the individual augment assignment during August 2015 and was promoted to his current rank on 1 September 2015. He executed orders to Marine Corps Forces Command, Norfolk, VA in October 2015.

While with Marine Corps Forces Command, Lieutenant Colonel Lane served as a Strategic Planner in the Regional Operations, Plans and Policies section of the G-3/5/7. In October 2016 he deployed as an Individual Augment to Combined Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Bahrain. During this deployment he was initially the Director of the Contingency Cell and later became the Integrated Operations Center Director. Upon returning in April 2017 Lieutenant Colonel Lane assumed his previous duties until accepting another Individual Augment in October 2017 to serve on the United States Central Command Staff. He served as a Joint Operations Planner for the CCJ3-Plans-Levant Branch until his return to Marine Corps Forces Command in April 2018.

Lieutenant Colonel Lane reported to Marine Detachment, Fort Sill, Oklahoma and assumed duties as the Executive Officer in May 2018.

He is a graduate of Officer Candidate School (1997), The Basic School (1999), FA Officer Basic Course (1999), Expeditionary Warfare School (2006), and Command and Staff College (2013). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Southeast Missouri State University (1998). He also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Webster University (2016). Lieutenant Colonel Lane's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with gold star), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Lieutenant Colonel Lane is married to his high school sweetheart, Annette. They have three children: Ethan (19), Clayton (16) and Cora (13).
