Mission Statement
The 2-6 ADA BN trains and educates Air Defense Officers, select Warrant officers and Soldiers in their respective AMD Skills, Warrior tasks and Battle Drills, integrate and train the 14P Individual tasks at the FCoE and designated locations IOT provide the operational force with leaders prepared to lead formations and well-trained, disciplined, physically fit Soldiers ready to contribute to their future unit of assignment; conduct AMEDD Officer Direct Commission Course IOT prepare new Officers for service as an Army Officer and for their initial role as AMEDD Leaders.
- Constituted 8 March 1898 in the Regular Army as Battery A, 6th Regiment of Artillery
- Organized 23 March 1898 at Fort McHenry, Maryland
- Reorganized and redesignated 13 February 1901 as the 60th Company, Coast Artillery, Artillery Corp
- Redesignated 2 February 1907 as the 60th Company, Coast Artillery Corps
- Redesignated 20 July 1916 as the 2nd Company, Fort Winfield Scott (California)
- Redesignated 31 August 1917 as the 2nd Company, Coast Defenses of San Francisco
- Redesignated 16 September 1918 as Battery A, 50th Artillery (Coast Artillery Corps)
- Redesignated 2 December 1918 as the 2nd Company Coast Defenses of San Francisco
- Redesignated 1 June 1922 as the 60th Company, Coast Artillery Corps
- Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1924 as Battery A, 6th Coast Artillery
- Reorganized and redesignated 18 October 1944 as Battery A, 174th Coast Artillery Bn.
- Disbanded 10 December 1945 at Fort Winfield Scott (California)
- Reconstituted 28 June 1950 in the Regular Army and redesignated as Battery A, 6th Antiaircraft Artillery Bn.
- Redesignated 4 October 1950 as Battery A, 6th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Bn, an element of the 6th Infantry Division and activated at Fort Ord, California
- Inactivated 3 April 1956 at Fort Ord, California and relieved from assignment to the 6th Infantry Division
- Consolidated 1 September 1963 with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 6th Artillery (active) (organized in 1838) and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 6th Artillery, an element of the 3rd Armored Division (organic elements constituted 30 August 1957 and activated 1 October 1957)
- Redesignated(less former Headquarters and Headquarters battery, 2nd Battalion, 6th Artillery) 1 September 1971 as the 2nd Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery, concurrently inactivated in Germany and relieved from assignment to the 3rd Armored Division (former Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 6th Artillery, concurrently reorganized and redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery - hereafter separate lineage)
- Headquarters, 2nd Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery, transferred 16 June 1987 to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command and organized at Fort Bliss, Texas
