Office of the Chief of Air Defense Artillery
ADA offers a wide variety of career opportunities with 5 different Military Occupational Specialties (MOS).
Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD):
engages close-range aerial targets (rockets, artillery, mortars, piloted vehicles like helicopters and planes, and unmanned aerial systems like drones). SHORAD Soldiers operate with maneuver units or forward deployed forces with MOS 14P engaging the front-line weapon systems and MOS 14G providing the critical link between SHORAD missiles and other military partners. SHORAD Soldiers deploy with various weapons, such as the MSHORAD/Stryker, Avenger, or C-RAM (Counter Rockets, Artillery & Mortars).
High-to-Medium Altitude Air Defense (HIMAD):
engages longer-range aerial threats (planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and anti-radiation missiles). HIMAD Soldiers protect strategic assets with importance across the world. MOS 14E manages firing and engagements, MOS 14T manages the missiles and launchers, and MOS 14H provides the critical link between HIMAD missiles and other military partners. HIMAD Soldiers deploy with various weapon systems and sensors, such as Patriot, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), and Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD).
